Law firms often present themselves as neutral advocates who will do their best to represent any man or woman in a family law case. But oftentimes this is not so, as deep-rooted prejudices guide their behavior. <alert name="Tell San Francisco Weekly That Parental Alienation Is Real, False Domestic Violence Accusations Are Common" date="March 2nd, 2011" anchor="sfw">

From Glenn Sacks Fathers & Families:

The new front page San Francisco Weekly article California Family Courts Helping Pedophiles, Batterers Get Child Custody is a one-sided attack on the legitimacy of Parental Alienation. The piece also explicitly dismisses the widespread problem of false accusations of domestic violence and child abuse in family court proceedings.

We want you to write a Letter to the Editor of the SF Weekly by clicking here.

We also suggest you comment on the piece on the SF Weekly website by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Peter Jamison, the piece’s author, tells us that "family courts [are] helping pedophiles [and] batterers get child custody." Yet in a state of 30+ million people, arguably the divorce/family law capital of the world, he and the coterie of anti-father activists he solicitously quotes came up with a grand total of two clear cases! By contrast, many California fathers have been targeted by false domestic violence or child abuse allegations.

	<alert name="Respond to Best-Selling Author Mitch Albom's Father's Day Hate Piece" date="July 8th, 2010" anchor="malbom">

Mitch Albom is a syndicated journalist and the author of the popular book, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven". A visit to his website shows a person actively marketing himself an inspirational man of faith, but a Father's Day column published in the Detroit Free Press (and other newspapers which carrying Mr. Albom's writings) reveals a darker side of this individual.

This column, entitled "Father's Day Needs More Real Fathers" (which can be found at: http://www.freep.com/article/20100620/COL01/6200481/Father%5C-s-Day-needs-more-real-fathers) steals a page from champion hater Barack Obama's playback by using Father's Day as a day to attack dads. In it, Albom laments the absence of dads in homes and blames absent dads for crime. "It makes me furious, it should make you furious" writes Albom, exhorting his readers to join him in his Father's Day hatefest.

But Albom never once mentions in his column how many millions of fathers are kept out of their childrens' lives by mothers who engage in parental alienation, nor does he mention any of the laws or government agencies which aid and abet alienation.

A search on the internet does not provide any links to any similar articles by Albom which may have been written on Mother's Day. It does, however, provide us with several quotes from his books which reveal Mr. Albom's maternally biased mindset:

" ... behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begin."

"When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth."

Either Mr. Albom has not heard of the many notorious mothers who've made headlines for murdering, abusing, and neglecting their children, or he chooses not to acknowledge them.

Because Mr. Albom is so influential (his books have sold over 28 million copies and he has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show), we believe it is important for divorced dads and non-custodial parents to keep him properly informed about the realities of broken families.

What You Can Do:

Complaints can be lodged with Mr. Albom via his website at: http://mitchalbom.com/d/contact.

Additional complaints can be sent to the editor of The Detroit Free Press via its website at: http://www.freep.com/article/99999999/opinion04/50926009.

<alert name="Arizona House Bill 2348: Write, Call to Support Legislation to Protect Disabled Fathers from Family Court Abuses" date="January 26th, 2010" anchor="AZHB2348">

Arizona HB 2348 will help protect disabled fathers (and mothers) from child support and alimony abuses—to email and fax a letter in support of the bill, click here.

The hearing on the bill is Wednesday January 27, so please act ASAP. This is a national issue and supporters both inside and outside of Arizona are encouraged to participate.

Although federal law is clear, judges are often ignoring it and calculating veterans’ disability compensation into divorce settlements as a divisible asset. Very often these payments are the only assets a veteran has. When judges include it as income, it creates great hardship for those veterans, who rarely have the resources to hire legal help to contest the taking of their benefits. HB 2348 will help end this practice—to email and fax a letter in support of the bill to all members of the Arizona House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee to express your support for HB 2348, click here. To call the Committee members, click here.

Veterans' service-connected disability compensation is intended to financially compensate a military veteran disabled in the line of duty. This compensation is not an asset, or property—it is awarded to a veteran that has lost some/all physical or mental ability to work, or maintain a daily routine. Veterans’ disability compensation is tax exempt and not classified as 'income' by the IRS. Under federal law, VA disability compensation is non-transferable and cannot be awarded to a third party under any legal process whatsoever. VA Disability compensation is not remuneration for employment, and it belongs solely to the disabled veteran that has suffered the disability. Many family court judges are ignoring all of this—to email and fax a letter in support of the bill to allmembers of the Arizona House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee to express your support for HB 2348, visit http://www.fathersandfamilies.org/?page_id=5734#takeaction. To call the Committee members, http://www.fathersandfamilies.org/?page_id=5734#call.

Last year Fathers & Families’ legislative representative Michael Robinson successfully worked to pass California SB 285 (sponsored by Democratic Senator Rod Wright), which protected disabled veterans’ VA disability compensation. Advocates and legislators from several other states have contacted us about SB 285, seeking to pass similar legislation in their states. Arizona House Member Frank Antenori’s HB 2348 is the first of these to make it to committee.

To email and fax a letter in support of the bill to all members of the Arizona House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee to express your support for HB 2348, http://www.fathersandfamilies.org/?page_id=5734#takeaction.

To call the Committee members, visit: http://www.fathersandfamilies.org/?page_id=5734#call.

F & F is also working with advocates and legislators on similar legislation in Texas and New Mexico, and is laying the groundwork for legislation in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, and Illinois. It also appears that a failed 2009 legislative effort in Iowa has been revived by CA. SB 285’s passage. In addition, a U.S. Congressman has taken up this issue and we are helping him craft a federal bill which we expect will be introduced in the near future.

The abuses being committed in family court concerning disabled parents’ VA benefits remind many F & F supporters of their own experiences in family court—a lack of respect for the law, violations of due process, fathers (and sometimes mothers) being financially plundered and shook down for money they don’t owe, etc.
